Introduction... Empty Introduction...

Post  chrispcarter Tue Mar 01, 2011 11:16 pm

Just thought I would introduce myself to stop you all from wondering who the hell I am. I'm a friend of Dan's, and I like to take credit for corrupting him away from fantasy and into 40k. Anyway, enough about him.

I've been playing Games Workshop games since the mid nineties, my first game was 40k 2nd Edition, though I've also owned Space Hulk since 2nd Edition and Warhammer Quest.

DISCLAIMER: I have a lot of miniatures. However, I am absolutely shocking at painting. I can do it when I manage to find the time, but I have always prioritised collecting and playing above painting. Hence I have a ludicrously low amount of painted miniatures. This is something I plan to remedy, but as with all things, it will take time (escpecially with the amount of stuff I have to paint).

40k is my main vice, and I've been playing Ultramarines since I started - i.e. before they were the army everyone loves to hate. At the time I started playing the current "big thing" was Blood Angels (just goes to show everything is cyclical), but I always preferred the 13th Legion. At my last count I've accumulated some 12000 points of Ultramarines, including the entire Second Company and most of the First.

I also play Imperial Guard. I started off with Valhallans during 2nd Edition, but after the plastic Cadians came out I switched over to using these, however I play them as regiments raised from Ultramar - not PDF, but full Guard regiments recruited from the worlds of Ultramar. That way they key in well with my Marines. I have about 4000 pts of Guard in total, but this includes all of my armour, which inclduing my Baneblade and Shadowsword, makes up about 2500 of my Guard.

As well as my two main armies, I also have a smaller contingent of Daemonhunters. These guys have languished for a bit, but with the upcoming release of the Grey Knights Codex they will hopefully find some use again. I can currently field about 2500 pts worth without inducted troops, though there is some overlap with some models being borrowed from my Guard.

Oh and not falling into any of the above properly, I have a Warhound Titan as well, "Lupus Ultio" of Legio Praetor.

As you may have noticed, I tend to play Imperial armies, and as a result my normal opponents tend to be anyone else - I most regularly play against Orks and Chaos Marines, though I have fielded my troops against Eldar many times, and Tau quite a few. I don't get to play as much as I would like to, but then who does.

I've also recently commenced work on a fleet for Battlefleet Gothic as well, having taken an interest in it lately and picked up a boxed set from eBay. My fleet is Imperial (I bet you're suprised). So far I just have Imperial Navy Cruisers and a few escorts, but I plan to include some Space Marine ships as well in the near future (once I've got a few games under my belt). I'll probably chuck in a Grey Knights Strike Cruiser as well just so everyone is represented.

I also read as many Black Library novels as I can and have accumulated an encyclopedic (if occasionally erratic) knowledge of 40k fluff, especially around Space Marines.

Anyway, I've probably wittered on enough, well done if you actually read all of that. I'm going to stop now. Any questions?

ah nice one mate, glad you joined.

Your first steps on the road to meeting these repribates. Not a bad lot to be honest, except Carlo, he's a dick.

It'll be good to see you down at the club when you can find time, most of the armies that grace the field are at different stages of unpainted, so don't worry too much about that.

Take it easy bud & I'll get the others to respond.

Hi, welcome to the club.

My name's Richard, but everyone calls me Harry... Sometimes I’m Mr. Simmons.
It is best not to ask.

Sounds like you've got quite the collection of miniatures; I look forward to being pummelled into the dirt by them. See you around the club. =)

Cheers for the welcomes all Smile

Dan - as you know I'm planning on basecoating everything with the airbrush soon anyway so at least they won't all be black anymore!

Harry - I shouldn't worry too much, I've never been that much of a power gamer - I tend to change my list for every game (hence the size of my collection) and I enjoy taking themed lists, so I'm not going to be pumelling anyone anytime soon!

Antoine - that's the key isn't it? I don't have much free time at the minute (ten month old son, for those interested). Dan did start to give me the details of the club, I was going to talk to him about it more today but I think he's busy - can someone give me the where, when and what of it? I am going to be working compressed working hours for the next year or so, which means I will be at work until 1830 on a wednesday for a while - I have a feeling that might cause problems! Shame as I really fancied some Deathwatch action!

Carlo - Noone mentioned you being a student Wink the forum looks good, you all seem to be along the same lines as me as far as the hobby goes - don't take it too seriously and try to have fun.

As for randoms turning up, you want to be careful noone from "Durham" in North Carolina finds the forum and joins up, or we'll be knee-deep in yanks wanting us to theoryhammer their latest min-maxed power build leafblower deathstar list tooled for tournament play!
